Some of the most historic towns of Puglia are not simply notable for their fascinating pasts, but just as much for the aesthetic qualities which time has shaped them with.
One such town, Alberobello, is quite like any other, in Italy or beyond. Its conical houses known as trulli helped to earn its place on the UNESCO World Heritage List and provide one of the best spectacles in the region. The historic town of Altamura is of rather more regular proportions with its graceful cathedral and smart piazzas. |
Puglia has an enviable collection of beautiful towns and the list continues with Martina Franca, Conversano and Bitonto veritable treasure troves of historic architecture, while the town of Gravina di Puglia seems to belong to another time completely and has an air of mystique.
