The Bandiera Arancione towns of Puglia have all been awarded with the Orange Flag, a mark of excellence operated by the Touring Club Italiano association. Most Italian regions have a number of towns on the list and Puglia's collection totals nine.
Among the criteria set out for the award are a certain aesthetic charm, environmental responsibility and facilities for tourists. Typically smaller towns or villages, the locations below are a little off the beaten track but contain a number of hidden gems with the likes of Cisternino, Corigliano d'Otranto and Troia among the best. |
